Peacebird
by Deanna Edwards
He Is Your Brother
Someone stands at your door;
You've never seen him before.
He needs someplace to stay;
Please don't turn him away.
Look at him; don't walk away.
Reach out your hand; he is your brother.
He needs you; take care of him
Please understand, he is your brother.
I know you have things to do.
I know he's diff'rent from you.
He may need something to eat;
Don't leave him out in the street.
Look at him; don't walk away.
Reach out your hand; he is your brother.
He needs you; take care of him
Please understand, he is your brother.
Someday when you are in need,
He may appear at your side;
Your hungry lips he will feed
And leave your soul satisfied.
Look at him; don't walk away.
Reach out your hand; he is your brother.
He needs you; take care of him
Please understand, he is your brother.

Peacebird
Hanging by a silver thread
Between the earth and sky,
A fragile end he couldn't understand,
I hurled my angry questions
Through the emptiness of time
And then I saw the picture in his hand.
Drawn by a hand so small.
High over mountains tall,
I hear the echo as it sings.
Lost in the distant skies!
Found in a child's eyes,
The bird of peace with sunlight on it's wings.
No earthbound fears could stay the tears
That glistened in my eyes
And fell upon the picture that he drew,
But stealing through my consciousness
The golden light of peace
Fell softly on the memories we knew.
Drawn by a hand so small.
High over mountains tall,
I hear the echo as it sings.
Lost in the distant skies!
Found in a child's eyes,
The bird of peace with sunlight on it's wings.
The bird of peace with sunlight on it's wings.
Catch A Little Sunshine
Go walking in the park without your shoes
And feel the green grass beneath your feet.
Run through a meadow full of dandelions
Where the wind smells wild and sweet.
Lay beneath the trees on the soft brown earth
And watch the leaves in the breeze all day.
Take a little time to watch the world go by
'Cause you can live alot better that way.
Catch a little sunshine. Keep it in a corner of your heart.
Life will be much brighter; It's no fun a-walking in the dark.
Love is like the sunlight, It will keep you warm.
Love is like a rainbow shining through a storm.
Catch a little sunshine; Keep it in a corner of your heart.
Take a little money from your next paycheck
For Mrs. Johnson down the street;
She has seven children and alot of worries,
And they don't have much to eat.
Mister Jones is nearly eighty-five
And has some work in the yard to do.
And I heard the Morrisons are building on
And they could use some help from you.
Catch a little sunshine. Keep it in a corner of your heart.
Life will be much brighter; It's no fun a-walking in the dark.
Lay a little music on the neighbor next door!
Love the little children like you never did before!
Catch a little sunshine; Keep it in a corner of your heart!
I'll Hold You In My Arms When I Get Home
I know that you're not used to living in an empty place;
For many years you've looked across the table at my face.
This house of ours needs painting;
The rugs are old and worn,
But the love we feel is just as real
As the day it was born.
Dry your tears in the sun!
The best of love and life is yet to come!
Smile for me, don't feel alone,
And I'll hold you in my arms when I get home.
They say you can't take care of me
In this little house we share,
But all the things I love are here
Our dreams are ev'rywhere!
Keep the flowers in the window,
Dust the table now and then,
And with Heaven's help and your sweet love
I'll soon be well again.
Dry your tears in the sun!
The best of love and life is yet to come!
Smile for me, don't feel alone,
And I'll hold you in my arms when I get home.
This is a classic song which, for the first time, gives people with a terminal illness a musical voice. This song helps to build bridges of communication between those who are dying and their loved ones who may be in denial, or who feel they do not have the skills or appropriate tools to make the experience of death a loving and learning one, in spite of the pain. Its use on an NBC News Special led to the work Deanna is doing today.
Teach Me To Die
Sunlight filters through my window
Falling from the sky.
Time slips like a silent stranger,
Softly passing by.
Life goes on in busy circles
Leaving me behind.
Memories. like portraits,
Fill the attic of my mind.
I know it isn't easy
Seeing me this way,
It hurts to watch me
Lying here day after day.
Trade your fear of parting
For the faith that knows no pain.
Don't be agraid to say goodbye.
I know we'll meet again!
Teach me to die. Hold on to my hand.
I have so many questions,
Things I don't understand.
Teach me to die. Give all you can give.
If you'll teach me of dying
I will teach you to live.

Brand New World
When you wake up in the morning
To the old alarm clock ringing,
And only one wool slipper can be found,
Do you jump back into bed,
Throw the covers on your head,
Wishing that the night was still around?
It's a Brand New World every morning,
Golden hours that will never come again,
It's another special day and the love you give away
Will be measured by the broken hearts you mend.
Greet each shining dawn that's breaking,
Check the progress you are making,
Don't think about what happened yesterday.
Take no worry for tomorrow
With it's happiness or sorrow,
There's too much life to live today!
It's a Brand New World every morning,
Golden hours that will never come again,
It's another special day and the love you give away
Will be measured by the broken hearts you mend.
It's another special day and the love you give away
Will be measured by the broken hearts you mend.

Take My Hand
Take my hand and walk awhile with me.
Take my hand and talk awhile with me.
Just yesterday my strong arms held
My tiny infant son,
And yesterday my hands could work,
My two strong legs could run!
I was the one with head held high
And sunshine in my hair,
Running down the meadow lane,
Climbing up the stair.
Take my hand and share with me my fears.
Take my hand and let me see your tears.
Please don't forget to lift your head,
Don't let the clouds go by
Before you see the forms and shapes
They make against the sky!
Please take good care of all the things
I've treasured day by day,
Sunlit crowns on mountain tops,
Rows of new-mown hay!
Take my hand and walk a while with me.
Take my hand and talk a while with me.
Take my hand! You will see
The wonders of the wolrd,
The wonders of the world in me.
Folks Don't Kiss Old People Anymore
I still need the loving arms you put around me long ago,
When you were just a little child of four.
I still need your happy laughter and your kiss upon my brow,
But folks don't kiss old people any more.
My hair has turned to silver and my face is lined with age,
Where the traces of the years have gone before.
I still need the reassurance you longed for as a child,
But folks don't kiss old people any more.
When will you understand that I'm not really old at all?
The thoughts that fill my mind are young as spring.
Time can't erase my need for love or take away the pain
Of loneliness that each new day may bring.
It would only take a little time from busy chores you do;
How I'd love to see you standing at my door.
I need to feel your gentle kiss upon my wrinkled face,
But folks don't kiss old people any more. Any more.
The Right To Live
I have a right to live;
It is the right of ev'ry man
Since life on earth began.
I have a right to give,
To give all the love,
To give all the joy I can.
I am so small, I know;
I could be held within your hand,
But you must understand:
I will need time to grow,
And time is the greatest gift of God, I know.
Give me a chance to find out
What it's like to be climbing
Over the mountains and meadows of the earth.
Give me a chance just to know you and to love you.
Give me a home, give me my name, give me my birth.
I am a child of God;
There is so much for me to do,
So much that I can give.
It all depends on you!
I'll give you my love,
If you will give me the right to live.
I'll give you my love,
If you will give me the right to live.
Put My Memory In Your Pocket
All the warm and tender feelings
That were born the day we met
Still live on and grow within me
Much too precious to forget.
Though the golden love you gave me
Is no longer yours to give,
If you must go alone,
Take something for your own,
And let my mem'ry live.
Put my mem'ry in your pocket!
Take it with you thru the day!
Tuck it underneath your pillow
When the sun has gone away!
Let it be a sweet reminder
Of the happiness we knew.
Put my mem'ry in your pocket;
Let me be a part of you.
There are very special moments
That the mind cannot erase:
I still see your silent shadow
And the sunlight on your face.
'Though I won't be there to warm you
When the nights are long and cold:
In the canyons of your mind
I won't be hard to find;
You'll have my love to hold.
Put my mem'ry in your pocket!
Take it with you thru the day!
Tuck it underneath your pillow
When the sun has gone away!
Let it be a sweet reminder
Of the happiness we've known!
Put my mem'ry in your pocket;
So you'll never be alone!
