A Song Is A Gentle Thing was written as Deanna's response to her patients and to the people who attend her workshops and seminars.

A Song Is A Gentle Thing

A song is a gentle thing - a song is a tender thing.
Just let it flow all around you.
Believe in the hope that it brings
New life grows from little things.
Hold on to the peace that has found you!

Let me wrap your heart in music for a moment!
Just forget the worries weighing on your mind.
Let me share with you the song I have to give you.
For gifts of love are very hard to find.

A song is a living thing, a song is a giving thing,
And it touches the soul with it's meaning.
No need for the games we play,
No need for the words we say.
Our song is the prayer we are singing!

Let me wrap your heart in music for a moment!
Just forget the worries weighing on your mind.
Let me share with you the song I have to give you.
For gifts of love are very hard to find.

Before It's Too Late

Before It's Too Late is dedicated to all of us who are too busy to take the time to say, "I love you."

Before It's Too Late

If I should wake up on a soft summer morning
With only one day left to live,
I'd cherish the moments, and notice each color.
I'd give all the love I could give.

If I had just twenty-four hours for living
The things that don't matter could wait.
I'd play with the children and hear all their stories.
I'd tell you I love you, before it's too late.

I'd light one more candle to brighten the darkness
And shine in the heart of my friend.
I'd take time to notice the view from my window
And walk in my garden again.

If I had just twenty-four hours for living
The things that don't matter could wait.
I'd play with the children and hear all their stories.
I'd tell you I love you, before it's too late.

Your Favorite Songs

There's music everywhere you go, my friend,
From the time you're small until you're grown.
You can share the music of the universe
But you need some songs to call your own!

A song will say just how you're feeling
When there are no words to describe
How good it feels to be in love again!
How great it is to be alive!

You are never alone, you will never be alone
From life's beginning to it's end.
With a special song to sing you are richer than a king!
Your favorite songs are your best friends!

Some songs are happy, some are sad my friend.
Some like them fast, and others slow.
Some folks like good old country music!
Some like the songs of long ago.

You don't need patches for an old song.
Old songs are just as good as new.
There's nothing better to discover
Than the songs you feel are just for you.

You are never alone, you will never be alone
From life's beginning to it's end.
With a special song to sing you are richer than a king!
Your favorite songs are your best friends!

Shanti Nilaya

I was a stranger in a lost land
I saw the fear on every side.
My soul was searching for the answers,
and I was lost within the tide.
I longed to have someone to hold me
one hand to hold mine through the night.
But there was no one in the darkness,
and I was crying for the light!

Shanti nilaya, shanti nilaya,
my home of peace - my home of peace.
Shanti nilaya, shanti nilaya,
my home of peace - my home!

And then I saw a light before me!
I was surrounded by it's glow!
The universe was all around me,
and then I cried, "At last I know!"
We need no chains of doubt to bind us.
We need to know with every breath,
That all the peace of God will find us
when we know there is no death!

Shanti nilaya, shanti nilaya,
my home of peace - my home of peace.
Shanti nilaya, shanti nilaya,
my home of peace - my home!

Who Will Listen

"Who Will Listen" was written for an old man who complained that no one listens to an old man because his stories, like him, are old.

Who Will Listen

You know, it's been a long long time
since I've said what's on my mind.
Doesn't anybody have the time to spare?
All the kids are grown and gone
and the winter's comin' on -
I have memories I wish that I could share.

Is there someone who will listen to an old man?
Though they've heard the lines a hundred times before.
All the stories I have told just like me are growing old.
Doesn't anybody listen anymore?

Here's a picture of a farm that reminds me of my home
And those blue Montana hills where I could ride.
Rich brown earth beneath my feet -
fields of clover fresh and sweet -
I can still recall those feelings deep inside.

Is there someone who will listen to an old man?
Though they've heard the lines a hundred times before.
All the stories I have told just like me are growing old.
Doesn't anybody listen anymore?

Why Can't We?

Why Can't We

He took the time to greet the children - to hold them
	gently on his knee.
He took the time to comfort sorrow, and walk through
	life with you and me.
He spoke of love to His disciples upon the hills of
	Galilee.
He spent His life and time on others, and I just wonder
	- why can't we?

He loved to watch the lilies growing, and new born
	lambs feed by a stream
He loved to watch the stars above Him when He could sit
	awhile and dream.
He took the time to lead the blind man - He took the time
	to help Him see.
He shared His food with those who hungered - and I
	just wonder, why can't we?

Can you imagine what this world would be if each of us
	vowed silently to follow Him?
Our spirits would be amply fed if we could live life as He
	said, and follow Him!

Sometimes He laughed at life's surprises, and asked His
	friends for company.
Sometimes He walked into the darkness, and wept where
	no one else could see.
We get to busy to remember He gave His life for you
	and me.
He taught the world of life eternal, and I just wonder -
	WHY CAN'T WE?

I Lost The One Who Loved Me

You can't know how it feels until you've been there -
When one last goodby is all that you can say.
I won't wake up to kiss him every morning
Cause I lost the one who loved me yesterday.

We lived together forty years next August
On a little farm beneath Nebraska skies.
Together from the earth we made our living
And the bright sun rose and set in Bobby's eyes.

It's hard to put one setting on the table.
I'd give anything to hold him just once more.
God help me through the times when I remember
That my Bobby won't be coming through that door!

I need so much your helping hand to guide me.
Without your love I may not find the way.
Remember I'll still need you next September
Cause I lost the one who loved me yesterday.

You're Only Just A Memory Away

Music Library
Comfort

You're Only A Memory Away was written for her close friend, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, and for Orville Kelly, also a close friend and founder of Make Today Count.

You're Only Just A Memory Away

You taught me to enjoy the buds of spring-time
Sweet watermelon ripened on the vine.
You showed me all the mountain leaves in autumn
And you helped me count the blessings that are mine.

You walked with me down mossy paths of Richmond
Found four-leaf clovers growing in the lane.
I wonder if you know how much I love you
And I wonder when our paths will meet again.

Will I ever see you dry your hair in sunlight?
Will you smile the way you smiled at me today?
I can leave you knowing that you'll always be there
For you're only just a memory away.

I saw you look across the Mississippi
When the evening stars hung silent in the sky.
I watched you search the corners of tomorrow
As you wondered when the time would come to die.

I heard your sounds of life the night we listened
To the echoe of a lonely distant train.
I wonder if you know how much I'll miss you
When I watch the Mississippi in the rain?

I wonder if you'll hear the songs I'm singing
And remember all those poems you used to say
I can leave you knowing that you'll always be there
For you're only just a memory away.
You are only just a memory away.

A Rainbow From You

All alone in a world full of people
I thought I would never live through
Waking up to the pain of life's lonely rain
Then I found a rainbow in you.

After the rain came a rainbow from you
After my tears came your smile
You are alive in my dark sky tonight
Thank you for shining on my life.

Thank you for melting the snow from my dreams
Thank you for touching my hand.
For showing me bluebells and birds in the spring
And the footprints of God in the sand.

After the rain came a rainbow from you
After my tears came your smile
You are alive in my dark sky tonight
Thank you for shining on my life.
Thank you for shining on my life.

Walk In The World For Me

The time has come now
For me to say goodbye.
No sad farewells
Will we share
For you will live within me
And I will live in you.
No words can say
How much we care.

We've walked together
On the dusty roads of life,
But kept our eyes upon a star.
We've laughed at the little things
And cried along the way.
I've come to know
The friend you are.

Walk in the world for me!
Sing a happy melody!
And keep my memory
Not far away.
May you find
That life will bring
All the best of everything!
Take special care of you
For me today!
